Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 5

What did you like about the book? Okay, this is the best children’s book on Washington D.C. I have ever seen! Becky and her friend Martin travel to Washington DC to explore all the sights. They arrive at the Washington train station and walk up to Capitol Hill. This is an over-size book with two-page illustrations of each of the buildings that contain the most intricate detail. At each sight, facts are mentioned such as the National Statuary Hall on the second floor of the Capitol. They move on to the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court. The Bill of Rights is included with the First Ten Amendments to the Constitution. They visit the Museums and the White House and the Washington Monument and more.

Anything you didn’t like about it? This is a complaint concerning the publisher and not the author: some detail is lost in the inner spine of the book such as the details of all the presidential pets, some being so far in the spine, they are indecipherable.

To whom would you recommend this book? This is just a fine introduction to Washington DC for anyone.

Who should buy this book? All public and elementary school libraries

Where would you shelve it? 975.3

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes!
