Genre:  Science fiction

What did you like about the book?  If you have looked for another Hunger Games experience, look no further! Ben Oliver has given us something new to dig into with all the thrills but with a few updated twists. Younger readers will be able to connect with the characters who are similar to contemporary teens although the world has changed a bit from today. Those who have money are referred to as “Topsiders” and live above ground while the poor now live in burrows dug beneath the ground and are called “Burrowers”. The female protagonist, a teen from the Burrows, has been arrested on arson charges.  In the police station, Emerson Ness is approached by a man who assures her that her problems are not insurmountable; she can agree to a reality TV show that will rehabilitate her. If she wins, she is free without the punishment of life in prison. Losers will spend their lives in solitary confinement for life…. maybe. The book is a quick read so perfect for even the most reluctant reader. The end of the book leaves us with potential for a sequel, so let’s cross our fingers!
