Format: Hardcover

What did you like about the book:  This is a fascinating book about an incredible place. The Galapagos is presented as a model of conservation and a land constantly changing. I was astounded by the facts in this book: the biodiversity, the active volcanoes (above and below the ocean), the many endemic species, and more. The book is written in first person from the point of view of the author traveling to the Galapagos and learning all about the islands. The author speaks with wonder and excitement about her travels – from an active volcano to a tortoise reserve, to diving in the ocean. The history of the Galapagos Islands is explored, as well as environmental concerns; the Galapagos banned all single use plastics way back in 2015. Pullout sections describe scientific research and the scientists who live and work in the Galapagos.

This book is a window into a fascinating world. The writing is exciting and inviting. Readers will find it both informative and interesting. Includes a glossary, source notes, and an index.

Anything you didn’t like about it? I only wish there had been photographs instead of illustrations! This book will certainly make people want to travel to and learn more about the Galapagos Islands!

To whom would you recommend this book?  This is a great read for students who like travel books or books about wildlife, the ocean, or conservation.

Who should buy this book?  Most elementary libraries and public libraries

Where would you shelve it ?  Nonfiction

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No
