Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 4

Format: Board Book

What did you like about the book? This appealing board book in Barefoot Books’ “Slide-and-See” series looks at several animals that use camouflage. Each page opening has a loosely rhyming verse describing the animal with illustration of an animal’s habitat, and then asks the reader to guess, “Who am I?” When the page is turned, a sliding circular panel reveals the animal. It’s a nifty effect, and, combined with the appealing artwork, makes for an engaging read. I like that there are additional fact pages at the end that define camouflage and describe the seven animals featured in the book. The book seems designed to hold up reasonably well to repeated use.

Anything you didn’t like about it? No

To whom would you recommend this book? A good choice for families looking for interactive books on animals for the youngest readers.

Who should buy this book? A good purchase for all board book collections.

Where would you shelve it? Board books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Near the top
