What did you like about the book? This is one of those books that I wish I could try out on a few kids before writing my review to see their reactions. The story begins with a huge plane that crashes on an island, a plume of smoke pouring from it. There are three survivors, three young girls who then begin to explore this magical island that boasts huge talking flowers. They find a tiny house where a tiny gorilla lives; there’s a big scary dragon and popcorn that falls from the sky like snow. When the dragon comes charging out of an old temple, he bites off the leg of one the girls! But hey, it is all just imaginative play: a toy airplane, a toy gorilla and Mom calling them in for lunch.
The story is told as a graphic comic book for Level 2 readers, with fun detailed and colorful illustrations done in India ink and watercolor.
Anything you did not like about the book? Hmmmmnnnnn…..?
To whom would you recommend this book? Children with a really good sense of imagination and humor will enjoy this one.
Who should buy this book? Public and lower elementary school libraries
Where would you shelve it? Beginning Readers
Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No.
