What did you like about the book? Multitudes of merry monsters make cupcakes in this rollicking picture book. They bake with monster flour, bugs, and love, and decorate with “chocolate ants in underpants!” Full of color, joy, and monsters of all colors, shapes and sizes, it’s hard not to feel happy while reading the book. The rhyming text changes font size, shape and color, and the frequent exclamation points are perfectly appropriate for the level of fun that the singing, dancing monsters are having during their mixing, baking, decorating and eating. And just when you think that they’ll break out into the ‘Happy Birthday’ song at the end, the DJ announces, “It’s your Happy Cupcake Day!” Who knew? And Google tells me that there is such a day, on December 15.

Anything you didn’t like about it? No

To whom would you recommend this book? The perfect read aloud for cupcake making or birthday celebrations at home or at school, for ages 3-7.

Who should buy this book? Day care centers, elementary school and public libraries

Where would you shelve it ? Picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? You know you need a dose of happy, so, yes!
