hello, moon written and illustrated by Evan Turk, Atheneum Books for Young Readers, 2022. 9781534400801
Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 4
Format: Paperback galley Picture book
What did you like about the book? A mother and child go out each night to look at the moon. One night the moon is full but then “Look! The Moon! Part of it is gone!” Mother explains the phases of the moon as the seasons change and the winds blow. Evan Turk used marbling inks and gouache to create the extraordinary luminescent colors of the blue and black night sky filled with mountains and skeletal trees in the story that looks to be in the frozen North.
Anything you did not like about the book? No.
To whom would you recommend this book? I think this would make a soothing bedtime story but also can be used to explain the phases of the moon to a young child perhaps going outside after the reading.
Who should buy this book? Public libraries
Where would you shelve it? Picture books
Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No.
