Lizzy and the Cloud by The Fan Brothers, Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, 2022.
Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 5
Format: Hardcover picture book
What did you like about the book? In the park near Lizzy’s house, clouds are sold on strings like balloons. There are some shaped like an octopus, some like a fish or an elephant but Lizzy just wanted an ordinary cloud which she named Milo. Milo came with care instructions which Lizzy followed to the letter. Water your cloud with fresh clean water. Do not overwater (downpours may result). Never confine a cloud to a small space. Lizzy loves her cloud and knows when Milo needed to float free. The two-page illustrations, done in pencil and colored digitally, are done in a soft palette with a lot of detail, appearing to be in the 1920s. Such a lovely imaginative story. Lizzy and her parents are white but other characters appear brown and black.
Anything you did not like about the book? No.
To whom would you recommend this book? The simple quiet of this story lends itself to bedtime.
Who should buy this book? Public libraries and child-care centers
Where would you shelve it? Picture books
Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes.
