Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 3.5

Format: Hardcover picture book

What did you like about the book? All the bugs are super excited when the grand opening arrives for the Hotel for Bugs! There are bouncy sofas, soft mossy rugs, scrumptious buffet, floors to nibble, a fancy new spa, Wow!  Then a “squishy, shiny, blobby” slug shows up, ready to book a room. The flustered manager orders the slug out; it is a hotel for bugs, not slugs!  The surprise here is that the bugs are very upset with this.  Why can’t the slug stay and if it can’t they are leaving!  Realising her unkind blunder, the manager runs after the slug to apologize and welcome the Slug back. Every color imaginable is used to exuberantly illustrate all of the different bugs and the hotel’s amenities.  A fun, rousing readaloud about acceptance.

Anything you did not like about the book? No.

To whom would you recommend this book? For the 3-5 year age range, this is a book to celebrate acceptance and differences.

Who should buy this book? Nursery schools and children’s departments of public libraries should include this book.

Where would you shelve it? Picture books

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No.
