I Love You More Than All the Stars by Becky Davies, illustrated by Dana Brown. Tiger Tales, 2021. 9781680102635
Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 4
Format: Hardcover
Genre: Fantasy picture book
What did you like about the book? Shimmering silver ink on dark paper distinguishes this heart felt book about love. Love for “you” is more than all the stars, more than summer days, deeper than the seas, etc. The rhythmic rhyme is nicely done, and the simple line figures with black, orange and the silver font in varied styles make this a visually satisfying experience. I assumed that the narrator was a parent, but it is open to interpretation, and the last spread is “You’re my best friend. I love you more than you will ever know.”
Anything you didn’t like about it? Not a criticism, but it it would have been awesome if the silver ink was glow-in-the-dark!
To whom would you recommend this book? For families who enjoy books about love such as Matt de la Peña’s Love or other non-narrative picture books.
Who should buy this book? Public libraries
Where would you shelve it ? Picture books
Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No
