Wiggle, Walk, Wash! Baby’s First Animals by Elliot Kruszynski. Candlewick Press, 2021. 9781536217797

Rating: 1- 5 (5 is excellent or a Starred review) 4

Format:  Board book

Genre:  Picture book

What did you like about the book?   Brightly colored digital illustrations with smiling, goggle-eyed animals make this a great choice for babies.  Each double-page spread features a parent and baby animal in action: “Baby Elephant Loves to wash.  Baby turtle loves going for a walk.”  Baby animals walk (turtle), cuddle (cat), jump in puddles (pig), fly (bee), hop (bunny), and wiggle (worm).   The text on each spread includes some fun sound and action words that will encourage little ones to participate in the story.  For instance, little ones can buzz with the bee, wiggle with the worm, bounce with the bunny and more.  The final page reveals all of the baby animals around a mirror with the text “And a baby like YOU loves to giggle!”   This is a great choice for babies.

Anything you didn’t like about it? No

To whom would you recommend this book?  This would be a fun participatory story to read at a baby and toddler story time.

Who should buy this book?  Public and pre-school libraries

Where would you shelve it? Picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this at the top of our “to read” piles?  No
