Sunny Song Will Never Be Famous by Suzanne Park. Sourcebooks, 2021, 9781728209425

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 3.5

Format: Paperback

Genre:  Humor

What did you like about the book? Sunny Song is beyond obsessed with social media and her phone. Sunny will go to great lengths in order to get high ratings on her channel. In fact, Sunny Song was born into an “influenster” lifestyle as her mother also kept a popular blog when Sunny was much younger. However, one day as Sunny was filming for her YouTube channel she forgot to turn the camera off and ended up being forced by her parents and her school to divorce herself from social media. Sunny was instead sent to a detox camp in order to help her learn to live without her attachment to social media. However, Sunny Song did not get all those ratings on her channel because she was a rule follower! While at the facility Sunny makes new friends and even finds a little high school romance! Sunny is absolutely the star of this narrative. She is funny and witty and the book will be very relatable to today’s adolescents. In the end Sunny has to figure out how to have a healthy balance with technology that allows her to experience other joys of being a teenager.

Anything you didn’t like about it? There was nothing that I did not like about this book.

To whom would you recommend this book? This book would be great for any teenager living in today’s social media/technology world. It is perfect for ages 14 and older.

Who should buy this book? High schools

Where would you shelve it? Young adult fiction, realistic if you genre-fy

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No
