Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 3

Format: Hardcover, graphic novel

Genre:  Fantasy

What did you like about the book? This is a fun compendium to the regular Kingdom of Wrenly series. The characters are cute and interesting and the graphics bold and simple. The language is uncomplicated and the plot easy to follow.  I was startled that the plot was almost exactly the same as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (down to the best friend dragon getting mad that his unqualified bestie was unknowingly placed in the contest…) Regardless, and throwing copyright to the wind, it is a lovely, easy read.

Anything you didn’t like about it? I want my books to be original plots, not knock-offs of other people’s ideas.

To whom would you recommend this book?  It’s great for early readers of graphic novels, dragon lovers, fantasy lovers and those who want to read Harry Potter but aren’t there yet.

Who should buy this book? Elementary schools

Where would you shelve it ? Graphic novels

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No, but the copy-cat plot line is fun to read. I spent some time counting the similarities between Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
