Rating: 1- 5 (5 is excellent or a Starred review) 4

Format:  Board book

Genre:  Picture book

What did you like about the book?   Sturdy board pages with tabs and wheels bring the classic song to life for babies and toddlers.  A tab on the front cover allows the reader to move the sailor, an orange tabby cat, back and forth on his little sail boat.  Another page allows his eyes to be moved back and forth to look through a spy glass. The reader can spin a wheel to view a variety of sea creatures including a dolphin jumping over the boat.  The final tab moves a whale to reveal more sea creatures under the “deep blue sea, sea, sea.”  The digital illustrations are bright and colorful and the tabs and wheel will be easy for little fingers to maneuver.  A good summer choice.

Anything you didn’t like about it? No

To whom would you recommend this book?  This is a good choice for one on one reading, especially for children who love the ocean.

Who should buy this book?  Preschool and public libraries

Where would you shelve it? Picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this at the top of our “to read” piles?  No
