What did you like about the book: A nature lover’s delight! This story is full of information about river ecosystems and visually beautiful illustrations. An inside look for kids of a river and the plants and animals that live there, especially in regards to beavers and otters. The beaver is an amazing architect and engineer, creating a thriving habitat that the otter can benefit from. Beavers and otters have a special kind of relationship; they will probably never be best friends, but by creating ponds, beavers help otters. ‘Scientists call this a commensal relationship.’ The back pages provide lots of interesting information on the amazing adaptations of the beaver and the river otter. In addition, there are literacy and science connections for teachers and parents, as well as recommended nature awareness books for further exploration.
