Where’s Baby Elephant? – Ali Khodai, illustrated by Toby Newsome, Tiny Owl, (9781910328699), 2020
Rating: 1- 5 (5 is excellent or a Starred review) 4
Genre: Picture Book
What did you like about the book? Beautiful, brightly colored illustrations fill the pages of this unfold-the-flap book. Readers search for the baby elephant and each flap opens not just once but twice. Readers will notice that parts of the illustration are shared between the flaps. Part of the lion’s mane remains when the flap reveals the hedgehog and another turn reveals an orangutan. Each flap reveals a parent and child animal pair that include a whale, toucan, fox, wolf, bird, crocodile, penguin, bear and finally, the elephant. The sturdy cardstock pages should hold up to frequent readings. Readers will love searching through the pages of smiling animals.
