What did you like about the book? A friendly and frenetic competition arises between a goat and a frog.  When Goat shows his friend that he is ‘ON it’ (a tree stump), Frog excitedly bounds to a rock and declares ‘I’m on it, too!’  The two characters comically collect items like potted plants, fish, and an angry beaver, to be beside, inside, under, between… until they are each precariously balanced atop their piles (reminding one of the Cat in the Hat standing on a ball juggling so many things), Goat exclaiming ‘I AM SO INTO THIS!’  Finally, Frog decides the game has gone too far and announces that he is ‘OVER it’ and plops back onto his lily pad.

Exuberant illustrations of this unlikely duo and the random things – a garden hose, a laundry basket, a yo-yo, a xylophone – that they collect in their pond setting will have readers poring over the book and reading it on repeat.  The series trademark color-coded speech bubbles (Goat is orange, Frog is green) and limited word count will ease comprehension for beginning readers, who might make connections to books like Hop on Pop or Ten Apples Up on Top without realizing they are learning about prepositions!

Anything you did not like about the book?  no

To whom would you recommend this book? Mo Willems fans will be excited for this fun new entry in the Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! series (and, as always, delighted to see those two pals at the front and back of the book).  ELA lessons in parts of speech will be livened up with this prepositional outing.

Who should buy this book? Public and elementary school libraries

Where would you shelve it?  Early readers

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles?  no
