What did you like about the book?  This title presents an overview of musical instruments and encompasses a lot of information on composers, performers through the ages, and the various styles of music. The 16 chapters include: Piano, Symphony Orchestra, Polyphonic Instruments, Big Band, Relatives of the Trumpet, Ethnic and Folk Instruments, and Electronic Music along with an introduction and conclusion.  Each chapter is filled with text boxes that discuss varied topics relating to the instrument or style of music.  The chapter on percussion instruments includes such topics as: Beating a Drum, Drums for Women Only, Conga, Parts of the Drum Kit, and Keith Moon.  The brightly colored cartoon-like illustrations and word bubbles will keep readers poring over the pages.  The book follows Niccolo the cricket and Luciano the nightingale as they explore the world of music. In the end the two friends realize that there is so much to learn, explore and try in the world of music. Readers interested in music and those looking to choose and instrument will find a lot of information in this packed overview.
