What did you like about the book?   This is a fun story in rhyming text about a cow with a cold.  Because her nose is stuffy, the cow’s “Moo” sounds like “Boo.” It doesn’t help that she gets tangled up in a white sheet from the clothesline and frightens all her barnyard friends.  But that night when a fox sneaks in, the cow says “Boo!” and scares it away.  All is well and her friends nurse her back to health, but then the horse says “Deighh!”  The cow passed her cold onto her friends, so the end piece contains instructions to “Scare away colds. Wash your hooves and paws!”   The illustrations, created with colored pencil, watercolor and digital media, are filled with detail and expression. This is a cute story for teaching hygiene to little ones. The plentiful pumpkins and autumn leaves make this a good choice for a not-so-scary Halloween read aloud.

Anything you didn’t like about it? No

To whom would you recommend this book?  This could be used in a unit on hygiene, especially important post-pandemic.  Young readers would enjoy the fun and not scary Halloween aspects.

Should we (librarians/readers) put this at the top of our “to read” piles?  No
