What did you like about the book? Sukie is a new student at school. This can seem very overwhelming for children and it was indeed very overwhelming for Sukie. However, in gym class Sukie’s classmate says hello and she then realizes that everyone is not so scary. With each passing day Sukie becomes more confident in her new school. She even begins to welcome others in situations where they might feel lonely or uncomfortable. Sukie became a connector of people who weren’t friends before. She invited others to play and often played with others. However, one day Sukie realized sometimes people want space and do not want to play. That made Sukie feel embarrassed and she needed to speak to someone about this. This was a great addition to the story. Teaching children that finding someone who will listen to you, that you can confide in, is very important. After Sukie confided in her friend she no longer felt embarrassed about the situation. In the end Sukie realized the importance of friendship and having differences but also sharing many similarities. The illustrations are very child-like and playful. They resemble colored pencil drawings with beautiful colors. I love the fact that the illustrator added even different hair textures in the drawings.
Anything you did not like about the book? No, this was a great book about friendship. It is important to teach children that sometimes there are difficult moments in our friendships and we have to figure out how to process through them.
