Do Your Best Every Day to Do Your Best Every Day – by John Cena/illustrated by Susanna Harrison, Random House, 9780593377239, 2021
Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 4
Genre: Inspirational (non religious)
What did you like about the book? I like the inspiring lines from John Cena and the fun illustrations depicting his remarks. Some remarks are hard to explain to the kids but the illustrations really helped. There were a few pages where I could point to specific lines or pictures and say “we should keep this in mind the next time _____ happens here.”
Anything you did not like about the book? At first my kids were not interested in this book, it’s kind of a self-help book and that is totally new to them. But I think that’s an important door to open, as I stopped to point out pictures or relate the lines to our lives they were drawn in and hope they will get more out of it in future readings.
To whom would you recommend this book? Children ages 8-13
Who should buy this book? Anyone looking to inspire a child to dream or just help pick themselves up when they are down or having a rough day.
Where would you shelve it? nonfiction
Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? probably, especially these days, we can all use some inspirational words of wisdom
