What did you like about the book? It is the season to celebrate moms! We just finished off women’s history month and maternal health month so it is only natural that we learn about all the different reasons why we love our moms. The baby in this book introduces us to his mom. His mom loves him, plays with him, sings with him. It is also important to know that there are different types of family dynamics as well. This book teaches young readers that some kids might have one mom or even some kids might be loved by two moms. At the end of the book we also learn about other things that moms can do. Moms can make art, make pizza, read books and of course kiss boo-boos. The illustrations are cartoon-like drawings of babies and moms. Each page has a full color background with the image of the baby and mom transposed on top which helps the image standout on each page.
Anything you did not like about the book? I would have liked more career roles for the mommy in the book. I appreciated the diversity of the types of families children can have i.e. two mommies vs. one mommy, however, the things that the mommy can do at the end are very much focused on their caretaker role.
To whom would you recommend this book? This is for any child obsessed with the word mommy. Perfect for ages 1- 5.
Who should buy this book? Daycare centers, early learning centers, pre-schools
Where would you shelve it? Board books
Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No
