What did you like about the book? What a fun “meta” book experience! Is this a book? Or is it a microwave with popcorn popping inside? Is it a suitcase? An elephant with a huge trunk made from a gatefold page which you hold out?! Dialogue around these images will prompt creativity and thinking outside the box/book. Jullien’s vivid, heavily outlined art is such fun. Sometimes it’s obvious what is depicted, and sometimes it takes turning the book in different directions to figure it out. Folds, flaps and gatefold pages add to the fun.

Anything you didn’t like about it? No

To whom would you recommend this book? This is a follow up to his This Is Not a Book, and stands along other fun, self referential interactive books such as those by Hervé Tullet and Brian Won. For ages 2-5 and their readers who like books that offer more than a straight read-through experience.

Who should buy this book? Day care centers and public libraries

Where would you shelve it ? Board books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes
