What did you like about the book? We all know that some books are better than others and not everyone is entranced by the same book. I am entranced by Chick Chat. Chick is just SO cute with her constant “Peep. Peep. Peep?” (At the breakfast table there are constant, non-stop peeps from the exuberant, talkative Chick.) She travels around looking for someone to talk to but no one wants to, not her Mama or her Papa, or her sister so the irrepressible chick goes off and chats alone. As she digs, she finds a really big egg that she is determined to care for and keep. She works so hard keeping the egg warm that she finally falls asleep. When she wakes up, the egg is gone – and I am not going to tell you what hatched from it – just that Chick was now a very, very happy baby chick. All the watercolor illustrations, done in spring and Easter shades, are full page. The enigmatic Chick never stops peeping. It is not just the expressive Chick but the placement of the Peeps that charms this story.
