Big Nate Stays Classy – Lincoln Peirce

Big Nate Stays Classy – Lincoln Peirce, Andrews McMeel, (9781524861766), 2020

Format: Paperback graphic novel or comic

Rating:  1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 5

Genre: Humor

What did you like about the book? This is a compilation of two previous Big Nate books: From the Top (2010) and Big Nate Out Loud (2011).  It is really great to start from the beginning with Nate, especially if you have not!  Nate at school, Nate wanting a dog, Nate playing basketball, Nate in the snow.  As one who has not read all of the Nate comics, I can see the addiction.  These are Very funny!  Nate’s principal, Mr. Nichols his teacher, Miss Godfrey, his friends, his Dad – get to know them all here and then follow up with the next Nate adventure. And Peirce’s illustrated interpretations of his unique characters with facial expressions that are so funny and perfect cannot be beat.

Anything you did not like about the book?  Not a thing.

To whom would you recommend this book? Big Nate fans would really enjoy this trip backwards and new readers can start here on their Big Nate readings.

Who should buy this book? Public and elementary school libraries

Where would you shelve it? Graphic novels or comics

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? If you are a Big Nate fan, then yes, but also if you want to enjoy older Nate stories.

  1. I love Nate! He’s so funny. I like Peirce’s Max and the Midknights as well.
