Genre: Animal Chapter Book
What did you like about the book? Bibbit is a fun frog character who loves to jump. He has many neighborhood friends, including other frogs, squirrels, and his sister Little Frog. The book is composed of many short stories telling about what Bibbit and his friends do, including jumping in the pond, enjoying a picnic, learning to swim, giving a birthday present, and traveling to the city. The last story in which Bibbit follows Little Frog to the city was my favorite because it was more of an adventure that was fun to follow. In each of the stories, the readers have a clear view into Bibbit’s thoughts, including his anxieties about certain situations. There are a few illustrations on each page to help tell the story, showing what Bibbit and his friends are doing in the text. The illustrations appear to be done with ink, and most include muted color for an older look and feel.
Anything you did not like about the book. There is very little plot in most of the short stories.
To whom would you recommend this book? This is good for readers who are slightly beyond Easy Reader books and are looking for a slightly more difficult easy chapter book. It would especially appeal to those who like short stories like Frog and Toad.
Who should buy this book? Elementary school librarians, public librarians
Where would you shelve it? Chapter books, or easy readers
Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No
