Maisy Gets a Pet – Lucy Cousins

Maisy Gets a Pet – Lucy Cousins, Candlewick Press, 9781536211597, 2020

Format: Hardcover

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review):

Genre: Realistic Fiction

What did you like about the book?: The Maisy books are amazing. They often approach everyday situations in fun cartoon storylines. In this one Maisy gets a new pet. The funniest part of the entire story is that Maisy is a mouse and her new pet is a cat! The underlying comedy of the book makes reading the book to younger readers very enjoyable for the adults. Maisy teaches the readers all the hurdles of having a new pet and the responsibility that having a pet requires. This is a great book to get a child before getting a pet so that they can get a full picture of what it takes to have a new pet. The illustrations are in true Maisy fashion – bright, cartoon characters and pages filled with lots of color. Unlike the Maisy categorizing books this book has about 2-3 sentences on each page.
