Genre: Horror (children’s)

What did you like about the book? I read the ARC called Shadow in The Woods and Other Scary Stories by Max Brallier. I liked it, but I did not find it very scary. But then again younger kids might find it just the right amount of scary. My favorite story is: “The Animal Behind the Locker”. That one did actually scare me! … I really liked it and I think you should add it to the library. I’m positive that other kids will like it and think it’s more scary than I thought it was.

Anything you didn’t like about it?  I did not find it very scary.

To whom would you recommend this book?  This would be great for emerging readers in grades 1-2.  It’s spooky enough for young kids, but not so much so as to keep them up at night.

Who should buy this book? Libraries where the Acorn imprint has been popular will certainly want to consider this title the first book in the series, Beneath the Bed and Other Scary Stories.  It’s a bit of a tonal shift from other Acorn books that focus on eliminating the feel of Diary of a Wimpy Kid or Elephant and Piggie so it will help draw in other readers who are excited to get to Goosebumps and other scary things their big siblings are reading.

Where would you shelve it ? Chapter Books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No.
