What did you like about the book? The Citizen Baby series offers simple descriptions of the American presidency, Congress, Supreme Court and voting process. With a cast of black, brown and white toddlers and their corresponding adults, and at least one adult in a hijab in most of books (not in My Supreme Court), these will be relevant to many families. Bright, cheerful art, which appears digital, likens the institutions to things a small child will understand. The president is important, just like Mommy. In Congress, they don’t always agree, just like Mommy and Daddy. The Supreme Court helps make laws fair, such as putting toys away so the play room doesn’t get out of control. Voting involves getting kissed by candidates, staying up past your bedtime and getting a sticker. Families can reference these books as they talk about current events and elections. Non partisan and highly visually appealing, with toddlers scampering around with their families at the voting booth, Supreme Court chambers, Capitol area, and campaign events, these books expose kids to a sweet and successful version of our national politics.
