Zoom Space Adventure – Susan Hayes & Susanna Rumiz, What on Earth Publishing Ltd., 9781999967987, 2021
Format: Pop up Board book
Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review): 4
Genre: Informational
What did you like about the book? The book follows Ava and her cat as they go on a space adventure. Ava explores the other planets, the moon and even makes a stop on at the International Space Station. The book is filled with facts about planets, galaxies and general outer space information. The illustrations are in the cartoon style and are not realistic renditions of the actual planets, stars etc. The colors on the page are so vibrant. Two of my absolutely favorite parts of the book are :
- Before Ava gets on the rocketship she is waiting for the countdown. The pages are cut out into the actual 5,4,3,2,1 numbers. At first when I read the book I did not notice that but when I went through it again it was a happy surprise.
- As Ava continues to explore, she encounters an explosion. The explosion is a full page popout that unfolds. It is a beautiful way to bring an explosion in outer space to “life”.
Anything you didn’t like about it? No
