Maisy’s Animals: A First Words Book – Lucy Cousins, Walker Books Ltd. London/ Candlewick Press, 9781536212921, 2020

Format: Board Book

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review):

What did you like about the book?:  The book introduces animals to early learners based on habitats. With each new page readers are introduced to a new habitat and on the opposite page there are a variety of animals that live in that particular habitat. The illustrations are in true Maisy book style. The animals are true to their realistic shapes and general features but they lean more towards cartoons than realistic animals. There are very few words on each page besides the introduction of the habitat and the names of the animals.

Anything you didn’t like about it? No

To whom would you recommend this book?  The publisher recommends it for 10 months & up

Who should buy this book?  Daycare centers/early learning centers

Where would you shelve it ? Board books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes
