Bathtime with Ducky Duckling by Lucy Cousins. Candlewick Press, 9781536209655, 2020
Format: Plastic bath book
Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 5
Genre: Picture book
What did you like about the book? In this story we meet a young duck getting ready for bathtime in a pond. First, he must get into the water. Then there is splashing on the tummy, splashing on the back and wiggling of the feathers. I could see where children could mimic these activities while taking their own bath. In the end, Ducky Duckling, along with a fish, frog, and a few other ducks are all clean from their bath.
I am a fan of Lucy Cousins’ books because the stories and bright colors always seem to appeal to young children. This is a bath book in that the pages are soft, plastic, and easy to clean and dry–perfect for many occasions with very young children. The illustrations also show some common objects such as flowers, sun, fish, and frog so it would be fun to point these out to very young children.
Anything you did not like about the book. Nothing
To whom would you recommend this book? Perfect for children between the ages of birth and three. If children enjoy other Lucy Cousins books then I’m sure they would enjoy this as well.
Who should buy this book? I would recommend this book for personal use, but I would not recommend this for a public library. A bath book would not be appropriate for a public library collection.
Where would you shelve it? I would not purchase this book for a public library.
Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No
