The Perfect Escape by Suzanne Park

The Perfect Escape by Suzanne Park, Sourcebooks Fire, 9781728209395, 2020

Format: ARC

Rating: 1-5  (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 4

Genre:  Realistic/ Humor/ Romance/Contemporary fiction

What did you like about the book? Suzanne Park has created a romantic comedy that will warm your heart. Nate Kim and Kate Anderson could not be more different. Coming from different backgrounds, different cultures, and different life experiences, you would think they would have nothing in common. That is definitely not the case. When they enter a competition together to win a large prize, their relationship will either grow or come crashing down.

With both characters being lovable, charismatic, and a little snarky, you will fall in love with them and their stories. The banter that they have between each other will both warm your heart and make you laugh. Additionally, readers will find the struggles that both characters have relatable.

Anything you didn’t like about it? I was somewhat disappointed with the ending. I think that it wrapped up too quickly and jumped from one plot point to the next. There was so much build up to the end, and then they did not spend enough time on it.

To whom would you recommend this book? I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes romantic comedies as a genre. For readers who enjoy books by Jenny Han or Meg Cabot, you will find this book similar and enjoyable.

Who should buy this book?  public libraries, middle schools, high schools

Where would you shelve it?  Fiction

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles?  Yes
