Genre: Picture book

What did you like about the book? This book puts a smile on my face because it is all about two friends learning to cooperate. In this story, we meet Croc and Turtle who are the best of friends but like to do different things on a snowy winter day. Croc has plans to go ice skating, sledding, have a snowball fight, and build a fort. Turtle would rather stay inside and do crafts, make a puzzle, play cards, and bake cookies. At first the two friends take turns and do one outside activity and then one inside activity. Unfortunately, neither is happy doing something they do not want to do and this causes some friction between the two friends. They decide to do their own thing by themselves but they soon realize that this is not what they want either. Eventually the two friends learn to compromise and have a wonderful time playing OUTSIDE INSIDE an igloo–the perfect compromise.

Anything you did not like about the book. Nothing

To whom would you recommend this book? This story is perfect for children between the ages of three and six. It is a great way to show how two friends that might not agree on things can still find a way to play together and be friends–it just requires a little creativity. It is sort of like The Sandwich Swap where children find the beauty in what is important to another friend. Also would be a great story for a child that might be having a little trouble with friendships.

Who should buy this book? Public and elementary school libraries, preschools, daycare centers, anyone that works with children between the ages of three and six.

Where would you shelve it? Picture books

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes, great message.

Reviewer’s Name, Library (or school), City: Kristin Guay, former youth services librarian.
