What did you like about the book? Miranda is at the mall stealing makeup to trade for the OxyContin she is addicted to. It has taken over her life. Suddenly there is shooting and people are dying.  Grace, who has cancer, is there with her Mom when her mother is shot and killed right in front of her.  There is utter chaos.  Parker was supposed to be watching his 6-year-old sister but ditched her to be with his friends. Amina is working at Culpeppers, undocumented Javier also works at the Mall and is shot in the leg.  Along with a guy named Cole, Miranda, Javier, Amina and Grace hide in Culpeppers.  Parker is trying to find his sister and stay alive.

This is obviously a very topical story, very tense and stressful to read but also riveting. All the characters are very well developed especially Miranda and Grace.

Anything you did not like about the book. No.

To whom would you recommend this book? Mass shootings have become very commonplace in the United States so this story is totally believable. The main characters are very strong, inventive, complex and moral. Almost any teen would be attracted to this story.

Who should buy this book? Public and high school libraries

Where would you shelve it? YA fiction

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes.
