Genre: Adventure

What did you like about the book? I will begin this review by saying that I bought all of the other books in the series after I finished reading this one. This book is fun, with lots of action. A cross between the Hardy Boys, Scooby Doo, and The Wild Thornberry’s. Dylan and his parents set out by kayak to a mysterious deserted island off the coast of Nova Scotia. In the lead up to this trip, Dylan must prove himself physically and mentally  mature enough to handle the dangerous journey. Once they reach the island, strange events begin to happen to Dylan, and the family is soon in great danger. Due to his deceased grandfather visiting him in his dreams and his endurance and mental training he is able to calmly and rationally think and act to save his family. Hockey also features largely, something this reader knows nothing about, but would be a huge draw to hockey fans.

Anything you didn’t like about it? No

To whom would you recommend this book? This is a great book for reluctant readers, especially middle grade readers. This is a wonderful crossover between genres of mystery, adventure, and sports.

Who should buy this book? Elementary schools, middle schools, public libraries

Where would you shelve it? Fiction

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Sure!
