What did you like about the book?  Concepts about numbers can be hard for little ones to understand so this title is a helpful way to get young children thinking mathematically.  A young boy and his mother are setting off on a car ride when he asks her, “Is 2 a lot?” She explains that “Two is not a lot of pennies…but two is a lot of smelly skunks.”  He continues to ask about numbers 3 – 5 and then 10, 50, 100 and finally, 1,000. Each time the mother shows how the number differs in regard to the circumstances. The numeral is used and printed in bold yellow font in the boy’s questions, while the number is spelled out, also in bold yellow font, in the mother’s replies.  The water color illustrations advance the concepts and are full of humor as the car gets filled with 2 skunks, four dogs, ten dinosaurs and more.
