What did you like about the book? A huge sad elephant named Poe is sitting smack dab in the middle of the road with vehicles honking from every side of him to get out of the way. But he won’t move.  He won’t move for loud noises, being tickled, begging, jeered, mice, magnets, copters, cranes or clowns.  Crowds tried to push him away from the spot with no success.  Every conceivable idea was tried, but none worked. Finally a little girl asks, “Has anyone asked Poe why he won’t go?”  She discovers that Poe is waiting for a friend who has not turned up.  Kids will be tickled by the outcome of this story. Big, simply colored illustrations done in acrylic and pencil on BFK Rives printmaking paper illuminate this fun tale.

Anything you did not like about this book?  No.

To whom would you recommend this book? This is an excellent choice for storytimes.

Who should buy this book? Public libraries and day-care centers

Where would you shelve it?  Picture books

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles?  No.
