Grin and Bear It: The Wit & Wisdom of Corduroy – Don Freeman

Grin and Bear It: The Wit & Wisdom of Corduroy – Don Freeman, Viking, (9780451479297), 2018

Format: Hardcover

Rating: 1- 5 (5 is excellent or a Starred review) 3

What did you like about the book?  Inspirational text is paired with illustrations from Don Freeman’s Corduroy books along with some new illustrations by Jody Wheeler.  An illustration of Corduroy riding the escalator pairs with “On your way to the top, enjoy the ride.”  An illustration of Lisa sewing the button back on Corduroy’s overalls displays the sentiment, “There’s no hurt so big that it can’t be mended by friendship.”  Each double page spread features the text on a pastel background with the outline of a pocket opposite the illustration on a white background. The verso of the title page states “a bear’s share” of the author’s royalties from sale of the book will go to the Linda Freeman Charitable Foundation. This would be enjoyed by fans of Don Freeman’s Corduroy series.
