A Day With Dogs – Dorothee de Monfreid, Gecko Press, (9781776570980), 2017

Format: Hardcover

Rating: 1- 5 (5 is excellent or a Starred review)  3

Genre:  Picture Book

What did you like about the book?  In a book very reminiscent of Richard Scarry, to whom the book is dedicated, double page spreads depict a variety of dogs engaging in human activities.  Each spread takes place in a particular setting including home, the farm, school, art class, work and more.  The dogs sometimes speak in word bubbles, for instance at the supermarket “Oh dear, that was expensive,” but the majority of the text consists of naming the objects on the page.  For instance “At the Supermarket” words include Yogurt, Milk, Eggs, Cash Register, and Receipt. Readers will love the bright colorful illustrations and will pick up some vocabulary words.

Anything you didn’t like about it?  No

To whom would you recommend this book?  Hand this to readers who love Richard Scarry.  It would also be useful for vocabulary lessons.

Who should buy this book?  Public libraries and elementary school libraries

Where would you shelve it? Picture Books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this at the top of our “to read” piles?  No
