I See a Cat by Paul Meisel

I See a Cat by Paul Meisel, Holiday House Publishing, 9780823436804, 2017

Format: Hardcover

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 5

What did you like about the book? A scruffy but adorable dog is the star of this book. Each page shows the dog seeing something different (a bird, a cat). His reaction to each thing he sees is what makes this book so entertaining. The text is simple and repetitive in order to encourage literacy and success with reading. It’s hilarious when you see the dog’s reaction to a squirrel.

Anything you didn’t like about it? I liked everything about this book.

To whom would you recommend this book? This is a guided reader level A which would be appropriate for children in grades K-1.  It’s also a book that toddlers will thoroughly enjoy, especially children who love dogs.

Who should buy this book? Public libraries, elementary schools, preschools

Where would you shelve it? Picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes

Reviewer’s Name, Library (or school), City and State: Sandra Pacheco, ESL teacher Washington, DC.
