I Hug by David McPhail

I Hug by David McPhail, Holiday House Publishing, 9780823438549, 2017

Format: Hardcover

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 5

What did you like about the book? This beginning reader shows a little girl who loves to hug. Written in simple language, the repetitive text encourages children to read on their own and feel successful. I hug my cat, I hug my rock, etc. This is a large picture book and the illustrations are expressively drawn to show the enjoyment of the little girl as she hugs people, animals and things around her.

Anything you didn’t like about it? I liked everything about this book.

To whom would you recommend this book? This is a guided reader level A which would be appropriate for children in grades K-1. It is also a book for toddlers who are learning language and can identify with the little girl hugging everything.

Who should buy this book? Public libraries, elementary schools, preschools

Where would you shelve it? Picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes

Reviewer’s Name, Library (or school), City and State: Sandra Pacheco, ESL teacher Washington, DC.
