What did you like about the book? For most young children, a squirrel is the first animal they see up close. This book of photographs of squirrels shows squirrels in their everyday actions. It is written in simple text for very beginning readers. Each page uses the same sentence structure of “ I can ___” and then shows the squirrel doing that action. It is a large book and the author has captured the personality and action of the squirrels. Everything about the book lends itself to teaching reading, right up to the back cover where there is a bio about the author. “Murray Head likes to read and make good books.”
Anything you didn’t like about it? I liked everything about this book. Beginning readers will love reading it, along with toddlers who love squirrels.
To whom would you recommend this book? This is a guided reader level A which would be appropriate for children in grades K-1.
Who should buy this book? Public libraries, elementary schools, preschools
Where would you shelve it? Picture books
Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes
