What did you like about the book? This is a book about friendship. A little boy and Buddy have been friends since kindergarten. Buddy continues to be annoying throughout the book, though. He’s annoying when he talks. He’s annoying when he doesn’t talk. When Buddy leaves for a while, the little boy has time to think about his friendship. By the end of the book, the little boy realizes that having someone around to keep you company and annoy you is a wonderful thing. This is a book written in Chinese with English pronunciation written above each character. There are two pages at the end of the book that highlight the phrases used in the book, along with the complete English translation of the book.
Anything you didn’t like about it? I liked everything about this book. The illustrations are child friendly and the emotion is very clearly expressed on the characters’ faces. I would have liked it more if the character looked more Chinese so Chinese children would be able to identify more with the character.
To whom would you recommend this book? Children ages 2-5. It is also certified appropriated for novice learners of Chinese by the ACTFL Proficiency guidelines.
Who should buy this book? Public libraries, elementary school libraries, Chinese immersion classes,
Where would you shelve it? Picture books
Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes
