  Swish & Squeak’s Noisy Day – Birgitta Sif, Alfred A. Knopf, (9780399556227), 2017

Format: Hardcover

Rating: 1- 5 (5 is excellent or a Starred review)  4

Genre:  Picture Book

What did you like about the book?  The reader spends a typical day with two little mouse sisters, Swish and Squeak.  Throughout the day older sister Swish hears all kinds of noises, from the ticking of a clock, to the swoosh of her toothbrush, to the munch of lunchtime and so much more.  Sometimes, Swish hears things like an alligator camping or an elephant stomping, but those turn out to be Squeak eating her breakfast cereal and stomping down the stairs.  The pastel colored illustrations are sweet, with cute details such as Swish wearing a pink tutu and standing on a spool of thread to brush her teeth, while the more rambunctious Squeak wears overalls, pink boots and a pom-pom hat.  At the end of the day, Swish falls asleep to the sound of snoring or as she thinks of it “Shhhhh…It’s the sound of a little mouse dreaming.” This is a fun celebration of both sounds and sisterhood.

Anything you didn’t like about it?  No

Should we (librarians/readers) put this at the top of our “to read” piles? No
