What did you like about the book?  Each day after school, Manny, a little raccoon, dresses in various color capes to battle imaginary foes.  “When he wore his blue cape, he saved the world from an ocean of unsavory sea creatures.  In his red cape, Manny battled an angry army of zombie bears.”    In the illustrations the imaginary monsters, in colors matching the cape, are superimposed over the real life scenes of family life.  In colored word balloons, Manny, says courageous mantras including “I am fearless!” and “I am powerful!”  At school, Manny even wears an imaginary cape.  When an older student referred to as “Tall One” bullies a little porcupine called “Small One” in the cafeteria, Manny gathers the courage to speak up.  In a small word bubble signifying a soft unsure voice, he says “stop it.”  When Tall One turns on him, Manny wearing his invisible cape stands up bravely: “He reminded himself,/I am fearless/ I am strong/I am brave/I am powerful/I am invincible.”  Soon the other animal children join in and the bully retreats.  Manny now has what every superhero needs – a sidekick, named Small One.  Readers will find lots inspiration in the story of this brave little raccoon.
