Rating: 1- 5 (5 is excellent or a Starred review) 4
Genre: Picture Book
What did you like about the book? The action of the story begins on the cover as a little pig in a red helmet is shown skateboarding on a makeshift ironing board ramp off the sofa. The inevitable crash leads to an unseen parental voice putting the pig in a 5 minute time out. The little pig quickly draws a spaceship and journeys to the moon while the voice counts down the punishment and reminds him to think about what he’s done. The pig returns in time to be complemented on his good behavior and told it’s now “Time in!” The acrylic illustrations feature bold black outlines and complement the tone of the story. This is a fun one to share with children who have experience their own time outs.
Anything you didn’t like about it? No
To whom would you recommend this book? This is a good choice to pair with the classic Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak as both feature a child’s imagination soaring while being punished for bad behavior. A good choice for one-on-one sharing.
Who should buy this book? Public libraries and elementary school libraries
Where would you shelve it? Picture Books
Should we (librarians/readers) put this at the top of our “to read” piles? No
