Pug & Pig Trick or Treat – by Sue Lowell Gallion and illustrated by Joyce Wan, Simon and Schuster Kids, 9781481449779, 2017

Format: Hardcover

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 5

What did you like about the book? Pug and Pig are great friends and with all great friends, they try to please each other. Unfortunately Pug doesn’t like Halloween as much as Pig does, but compromises and finds a way to make both himself and Pig happy. This is a wonderful book for beginning readers. It is a large picture book with simple text that can be read easily for a child who is just learning to decode. There is repetition and illustrations that help with understanding. Children who have read Pug & Pig’s initial book will enjoy this adventure.

Anything you didn’t like about it? I liked everything about this book, especially the compromise that Pug came upon. It will make for a great discussion book for young children about friendship and  compromise.

To whom would you recommend this book?  Children ages 2-5. This is a beginning reader that is of high interest and is fun to read.

Who should buy this book? Public libraries, elementary school libraries, pre-schools

Where would you shelve it? Picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes

Reviewer’s Name, Library (or school), City and State: Sandra Pacheco, ESL teacher Washington, DC.
