The Great American Story of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the Peanuts Gang! (History of Fun Stuff) by Chloe Perkins, illustrated by Scott Burroughs, Featuring artwork by Charles M. Schulz. Simon Spotlight, 2017.  9781481495530

Format: Paperback

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 3.5
What did you like about the book? This engaging “Ready to Read” title tells of the career of Charles M. Schulz and how his Peanuts comic strip rose to fame across the world. Prolific color illustrations in a retro style complement the text. Kids are rewarded by a congratulations at the end, proclaiming they are now a “History of Fun Stuff Expert on Charlie Brown …” Back matter includes sections on how to draw Charlie Brown, the science of animation, the geography of places mentioned in the book, and a quiz.

Anything you didn’t like about it? There were a few too many exclamation points for my liking. There are no sources given. Although the title page announces that the book features artwork by Schulz, it is sparse.

To whom would you recommend this book?  Young fans of Charlie Brown comics may enjoy this title.

Who should buy this book? Elementary school and public libraries

Where would you shelve it ? Easy readers, with the rest of the “History of Fun Stuff” series.

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No
