Graveyard Shakes by Laura Terry

Graveyard Shakes by Laura Terry, Scholastic, 2017. 9780545889544

Format: ARC

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 3

Genre:  Fantasy/horror

What did you like about the book? Sisters Katia and Victoria don’t fit in at their posh boarding school. Little Ghost doesn’t fit it with the other ghosts in the cemetery. Modie’s eccentric father, Nikola, keeps him locked up and tries to keep him alive with by means of a sinister spell. The four outcasts team up to vanquish a mega ghost and prevent Nikola from his dastardly plans. Colorful cartoons in the style of Raina Telgemeier add interest.

Anything you didn’t like about it? The story was slight (will a sequel flesh it out?) and the characters were one-dimensional.

To whom would you recommend this book?  For kids ages 8-12 who like supernatural graphics.

Who should buy this book? Elementary school and public libraries

Where would you shelve it ? Graphic novels

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No
